The producers are Simon Laub and Sam Potter of Masnomis Ltd. This has been the company's (and the individuals') first foray into film-making. A steep learning curve has been matched by their formidable ability to absorb information and willingness to adapt. Those attributes have been critical over the course of a long and challenging production, which took in filming across 7 different countries.
The film has been produced in association with The SRK, whose partners Suridh Hassan, the director, and Ryo Sanada, assistant director and producer, have together worked from day one to help bring this film to fruition. The SRK has brought to the table a fabulous eye for the aesthetic and an excellent ear for the sonorous.
Our lead cameras have been Clare Richards and Naor Elimelech. Clare is a Grierson award winning director and her camera work displays her amazing instincts at disarming and uncovering the characters. Beauty is at the forefront of all that she films. Naor provides a unique style and an eccentric window on the world. Naor manages to draw viewers of his work into the world he wants to project. Both Clare and Naor, as well as our other cameras, often had to work under extremely demanding conditions. Along with the rest of the team above they handled themselves admirably.
Soka Afrika was edited by Tim Grabham, a man of many different talents. Tim's ability to perform many functions, from editor to animator to illustrator, has really come to the fore as we've gradually moved from filming to editing. Already a very small crew on a small budget, his diligence and dedication to the cause, as well as his knowledge-base, have enabled us to continue to operate in a stream-lined fashion and to keep costs down.
As with all documentary films this has been a collaboration amongst many, all of whose names we could not possibly list here. You'll have to see the film for the full credit list!
